My car

I drive a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, and I simply love my car!  I've had her for over two years and i spoil her, she always gets new accessories and oil changes on time!  Recently though,  she's been making a really weird noise, it's a high pitch squeeky noise coming from underneath the engine, and it's pissing me off!  This started happening on Saturday and then to top it off on Monday my service engine light soon came on.  I'm pretty knowledgable with cars, but i cannot figure this one out and I'm going crazy!  Someone please give me some helpful input...

  1. 1st thing I say is take it to the Pontiac/GMC dealer or anyother mechanic and tell them what's going on.
2nd thing if you dont want to do that, then join a Grand Am forum and ask them there. They help a lot, they helped me with my car all the time :)

  2. I would go to autozone, and ask them to plug your car into an OBDII scanner since you car is OBDII certified. They do this for free. Get the codes on a piece of paper, figure out what they mean by a quick search on (preferably) a grand am forum. That should shed some light on the check engine light. The check engine light may be due to the engine noise or vise versa. Where is the noise coming from? How does it sound? I'll gladly take a look at it if you like! I'm a bit mechanically inclined, I might be able to shed some light on it for you :)
